Is HTML allowed in my posts?
Not really. But, you may make a web link active so that someone can click on it and go to a website by wrapping the link in brackets. Example: [http://www.carychurchofchrist.org]. Otherwise, HTML is not allowed. Any HTML posted will show up as HTML source code and not get processed.
How can I have my "Email Notify" address modified or removed?
Send an email and it will be taken care of.
Why is a login and password required for posting a message?
The elders have decided to place the ability to post messages to the church message board behind a password. The church message board is intended for internal communication among our members, and while we do not want to in any way restrict anyone from viewing our message board, we believe that only members should be placing messages on the message board. The Guest Book provides nonmembers an opportunity to place a message on our web site for our members to read and will continue to do so. Anyone who is not currently a member of our congregation who wants to have a message posted on our message board may contact our church secretary to ask them to add their message. Again, a password will be needed only to post a message, not to view the messages on the message board.
Is there an RSS feed for the Message Board
Yes! However, if "special characters" are submitted in a message, such as quotes, hyphens, ampersands, and symbols copied and pasted from MS Word, the feed will not work until those characters are manually replaced. So the feed is not completely reliable for now.

The message board is a great tool that we have at Cary. It allows us to easily communicate with a large portion of the congregation quickly, and helps us to reduce the strain on other communications means, especially the bulletin and mailboxes. However, it is easy to misuse the message board unfortunately to the point that it can actually become ineffective.
The Elders have asked me to be the Deacon in charge of Internal Communications which means that I am tasked with helping the congregation communicate effectively.
Here are some guidelines for making the best use of our message board:
1. Messages posted on the board are for everyone in the congregation to read, and around 100 members receive email notifications when messages are posted. It is a great tool for prayer requests, benevolence requests, wedding announcements and the like.
2. The board should not be used to communicate with a small subset of the congregation. The vast majority of our small groups are less than 40 people. Examples are TEABS, Youth, Singles, Livewires, Young Marrieds, Lads to Leaders, etc. When communicating with these groups electronically, please use email. I can help you set up a distribution list for your group that will make these emails easy. Larger groups, such as all the women, or all the men would be good candidates for the message board.
3. Personal information should never be posted without permission. Examples of personal information include medical conditions, personal financial information, marital problems, and of course spiritual condition. If you do not have the person's permission, you should not post personal information. Remember, this is a public forum.
4. Cary's message board is not intended to be used as a forum. We want to avoid conversations as much as possible. Remember, every time we post a message, even if it is only a response to another message, around 100 emails are sent to members.
5. Finally, try to avoid negative messages about others. Politics and other religions are sometimes targets. We need to realize that without the foundation of God's word, people might not understand our stance on a subject. I am not saying that we shouldn't take a stand, let's just be careful and loving in our language, and again, realize that this is a public forum.
The message board is a great tool for us and we should feel free to use it. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.
In Christ,
Bobby Moore
